The first branch of St. Petersburg State University in the CIS will be established in Tashkent

On March 13, a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education U. Begimkulov, Rector of the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies G. Rixsieva, Consul General of Uzbekistan in St. Petersburg A. Babaev and others visited St. Petersburg State University.

The main purpose of the visit was to develop cooperation between higher education institutions of the two countries, in particular, to establish a branch of St. Petersburg State University in Uzbekistan.

As a result of the talks, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education and St. Petersburg State University on the establishment of a branch of a prestigious Russian university in Tashkent.
“Today we have reached an agreement to establish a branch of one of the world’s leading universities in Uzbekistan,” said Deputy Minister U. Begimkulov. – The new branch specializes in biomedicine and oriental studies. Biomedicine is a new field of study for us. The branch conducts advanced interdisciplinary research in chemistry, biology, physics and other sciences, and the leading medical and pharmaceutical companies of Uzbekistan are actively involved in this process.
In turn, the rector of St. Petersburg State University Nikolai Kropachev noted that he is very interested in the implementation of educational and research projects in Uzbekistan.
During the visit, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies and St. Petersburg State University to develop cooperation.
For information, St. Petersburg State University is the first university in Russia (1724). The university is a university that has trained nine Nobel laureates, six prime ministers and two presidents of the Russian Federation.
