TSIOS develops partnerships with HEIs of Turkey
Nowadays Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies pays great attention to the establishment and development of cooperation with foreign universities and research institutes. So far, the institute has established partnerships with more than 60 foreign HEIs, and increasing their number and expanding cooperation with higher education institutions of foreign countries are one of the main directions of further development of the institute.
On January 14, 2019 the rector of Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies Prof. A.Mannonov had a meeting with a delegation from Turkey, representing Ali Eyyupkoca, Advisor on Educational Affairs of the Ambassador of Turkey to Uzbekistan, professor Ramazan Korkmaz, President of the Association of Caucasian Universities and Mithat Karadan, representative of Tümosan Azia LLC.
The aim of the visit was to discuss the issues of further development of cooperation between TSIOS and HEIs of Turkey. At the beginning of the meeting, the Rector of TSIOS spoke about the development of oriental studies in our country and gave information about academic and scientific activities of the institute, Turkic languages department’s activity and processes of teaching Turkish language, literature, policy, economy, history and culture within the institute.
“It is important to note that students studying in our institute and learning Oriental languages, learn not only the language themselves, but also the history, literature, economy, politics, and culture of that countries. And we believe that it is very important for the preparation of orientalists and regionalists” said the Rector of the TSIOS.
At present, about 240 students of TSIOS learn Turkish, and more than 150 of them study at the Faculty of Eastern Philology and the rest at the Faculty of Economics and Politics of Foreign Countries, Faculty of History and Philosophy. The department of Turkic languages has high scientific potential and now at the department work 19 candidates of sciences and PhDs, 4 doctors of sciences. Nowadays TSIOS is negotiating with several HEIs of Turkey on opening joint department and on strengthening cooperation.
Representatives of Turkey, in their turn, expressed their willingness to strengthen relations with the Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan and highly appreciated the reforms undertaken in the country to develop high education system. The President of the Association of Caucasus Universities R.Korkmas have information about the activity of the organization that has more than 160 member HEIs from 14 countries. Prof. R.Korkmaz proposed to the Rector of TSIOS to join this association and to get acquainted with the representatives of Higher Education Institutions of Turkey by participating in a conference in Tashkent in May.
Advisor on Educational Affairs of the Ambassador of Turkey to Uzbekistan A.Eyyupkoca told that in near future to TSIOS will be send a professor and meanwhile stressed the importance of developing bilateral cooperation in the field of high education.
At the end of the meeting, the sides agreed to continue negotiations and to organize a meeting in May.
