Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies won $140 000 grant financed by the World Bank

Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies attaches great importance to strengthening the material and technical base of the institute, the use of innovative methods and modern methods in the educational process, in particular, cooperation with foreign universities, attracting international investment in this process. As a result of these efforts, TSIOS won a grant competition announced by the Foundation for Academic Innovation, with the grant project “Creating Modern Conditions for Improving the Quality of Education and Preparing Simultaneous Translators at the New Stage of International Relations”. The grant competition announced by the Foundation for Academic Innovation is being held by the World Bank as part of a project to modernize the higher education system in Uzbekistan.

Currently, the issues of training highly qualified interpreters are becoming increasingly important in the conditions of development and strengthening of the partnership of the Republic of Uzbekistan with many countries of the world, because it is very important to establish an intercultural dialogue with representatives of different nations and nationalities in their native language. At the same time, it is not a secret to anyone that the perfect mastery of foreign languages is one of the most important conditions for the development of a highly qualified, competitive staff.

The grant project “Creation of Modern Conditions for Improving the Quality of Education and Training of Interpreters at the New Stage of International Relations” will be implemented in collaboration with Hankuk University of Foreign Languages, one of the prestigious higher educational institutions of the Republic of Korea. The main goal of the project is to improve the quality of education in the process of simultaneous translation of oriental languages, to increase students’ interest in selected areas, to improve the professional skills of teachers of TSIOS and other universities of the country, and to satisfy the need for a simultaneous interpreter in the labor market.

Currently, at Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies are taught 14 eastern and 4 western languages, students can learn international relations, world politics, economics of foreign countries and regional studies, eastern philosophy, history and source study, philology and translation studies.

In the framework of the grant of $ 140,000 will be purchased specialized technical equipment for simultaneous translation and will be created an Educational Cluster specialized in Simultaneous Translation.
