TSIOS in mass media of the Republic of Korea

On October 29, 2018, a delegation of journalists from a number of major mass media such as EBS, BBC, Hankukilbo, Dongailbo of the Korean Republic visited the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies. The members of the delegation were welcomed by the Rector of the Institute, Prof. A.Mannonov, vice-rector on International Cooperation O.Sheraliev, Dean of the faculty of Korean Studies Prof. Sh.Usmanova.

The purpose of the South Korean journalists’ visit to Uzbekistan is to promote Uzbekistan in the Republic of Korea, to introduce its tourism opportunities, to reveal its investment attractiveness, to present the state of relations between Uzbekistan and South Korea and the development of Korean studies in Uzbekistan. and their broad coverage in their  countries.

Journalists from the Republic of Korea first met with the administrative stuff of the institute. The Rector of the Institute, Professor Abdurahim Mannonov informed the guests about the activity of TSIOS and its role in the system of higher education of Uzbekistan, in particular, he talked about educational process at the Korean Studies faculty, facilities created for the teaching stuff and students’ and provided answers to questions that journalists were interested in.

After that, South Korean journalists got acquainted with  the department of Korean philology and library fund, as well as  with the activities of 16 clubs, which were organized at the faculty of Korean Studies. A Korean song prepared by members of the “Arirang” song club, a Korean dance prepared by the members of the “Chum” dance club and performance presented by the Taekwondo group,  video clips and materials presented by the Mass Media group highly impressed the journalists from South Korea.

Later the journalists made interviews with the Dean of the Korean Studies faculty, Professor Shoira Usmanova. During the interview, Sh.Usmanova talked about the objective basis of the formation of faculty of Korean Studies, the faculty’s educational process, students’ interest in studying Korean language, literature, history, culture, politics and economics,  as well as the issues of cooperation with higher educational institutions of the Republic of Korea. Journalists also interviewed students of the faculty of  Korean Studies,  Salihova Ra’no, Burkhonova Dilsozo, Nazarova Madina and Kim Yuri in korean language.

After the interviews, the guested participated in the lessons of KOICA volunteer Pak Chan Ho and faculty teacher B.Hakimova. TSIOS provided South Korean Journalists with a booklet about Korean Studies faculty and with all the necessary materials about the Institute.

We think that the visit of the media representatives of the Republic of Korea to the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies and Uzbekistan in general will strengthen cooperation in the field of science and education between the two countries and promote the further development of cultural relations.
