In accordance with the state visit of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to Uzbekistan, on October 18-19, 2018, at the initiative of the leading universities of Uzbekistan and Russia in Tashkent was held an Uzbek-Russian educational forum.

On the first day of the forum, on October 18, 2018, the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies signed a framework partnership agreement with Pacific State University, Ural Federal University and Kazan Federal University of the Russian Federation. According to the agreements, higher educational institutions will cooperate in the field of educational, teaching and research activities, in the creation and implementation of joint educational programs, providing “double degrees” on completion of studies. The objectives of cooperation are:

  • further optimization of the educational process, exchange of experience in the field of attracting innovation in the educational process;
  • development of joint educational programs in undergraduate and graduate studies;
  • Organization of joint training in master and doctoral programs;
  • exchange of teaching materials and cooperation in the development of educational, scientific and teaching materials;
  • creation of mutual exchange programs for students and teachers and cooperation on many other issues.

Pacific State University is one of the largest universities in the Russian Far East, and currently there are 12 faculties and institutes in the university. The rector of the Pacific State University, Professor Ivanchenko Sergey Nikolaevich on the perspectives for cooperation with the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies said the following: “I think that the signing of an agreement between the two institutions of higher education is a new stage of cooperation between universities of Uzbekistan and Russia. Today, our university has 35 students from Uzbekistan, and we are ready to cooperate with your country in the field of higher education. Our university has a faculty of Oriental studies and history, where taught eastern languages and regional studies. Today we work closely with universities of China, Japan and other Asian countries. I think that by cooperating with the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies, we will be able to further strengthen education and science in the field of Oriental studies. ”

Kazan Federal University is one of the oldest universities in Russia and was founded in 1804. The university received world recognition for his oriental school. Rector of the University Gafurov Ilshat Rafkatovich commented on the cooperation with Tashkent State University: “First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to the rector of your institute. Because in your institute have been accumulated a lot of materials  associated with our republic and oriental studies in general. Oriental studies in our Kazan Federal University has been developing since ancient times, since the foundation of our institute in 1804. Gradually, the direction of Oriental studies was transferred to St. Petersburg University, and then to Moscow. In this regard, for some period of time we have lost quite different levels of sources. The same time, today we have a sufficient number of sources that still require a certain systematization. I think that if specialists from both sides work together in this direction, it will enrich our university and your institute”.

Another higher education institution with which a cooperation agreement was reached is the Ural Federal University. The university was founded in 1920 and now more than 35,000 students study there and there are 18 institutes and centers at the university.
